There was a video of Ronaldo leaving the field that looked to show him smacking a fan’s phone out of his hand.
The 37-year-old, who received a warning from police in August, has been charged with “improper and/or aggressive behavior” by the FA.
A statement published by the FA on Friday read: “Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with a violation of FA Rule E33 for an incident that took place following Manchester United FC’s Premier League match against Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022.
The forward’s alleged inappropriate and/or aggressive behavior after the final whistle.
United released a statement soon thereafter that read: “We acknowledge the FA announcement in respect to Cristiano Ronaldo. We’re behind the athlete no matter what happens with the accusation against him.
Following the incident at Goodison Park, Merseyside Police initiated their own investigation, which was ended in August when Ronaldo was handed a caution.
A statement from Merseyside Police on Aug. 17 read: “We can confirm that a 37-year-old male voluntarily came and was questioned under caution in connection to an allegation of assault and criminal damage.
This claim concerns a possible incident that occurred after the April 9 football game between Everton and Manchester United at Goodison Park.
“A conditional caution has been issued to resolve the case. This is a closed chapter.
