Lewis Hamilton has said publicly that he would not retire from Formula 1 until he has won another world championship.

Hamilton is presently tied with Michael Schumacher for the most F1 titles with seven.

Because Mercedes has had trouble deciphering its W13 design and getting over the porpoising problem that plagued them in the opening races of the season, he will not win an eighth championship this year.

Hamilton is now on track for his lowest-ever finish in the World Championship, which would be sixth place. His greatest results so far in 2022 are two second-place finishes in France and Hungary.

The British driver, however, has admitted that he would not be retiring from Grand Prix racing due to the temptation of the challenge of returning to winning ways and battling for championships.

Hamilton’s Grief Over Abu Dhabi

For the ninth time, Hamilton was poised to win the championship, but Max Verstappen stole the title from him in a thrilling one-lap shootout thanks to choices made by race director Michael Masi behind the Safety Car in the closing laps.

That, along with the challenging quality of the W13, has further prolonged Hamilton’s usefulness.

In an interview with RACER.com, he said, “I suppose if we had only won last year and then we would win this year, life would be another place and you would be on a different route.”

“The fact that it has just been challenged by a more difficult period, and that we must persevere through the next grind, has actually increased my desire to be around for a little longer.

“I’m in good shape and learning how to maintain it.

“Because we athletes live life on the edge, the mental strain is constantly there and never goes away.

“Still, I’d like to believe I have a future here, and there’s a lot of ground to cover.

The difficulty of getting back on track and winning

Although he will be 38 when the next season begins, Lewis Hamilton is still motivated to add to his record 103 Grand Prix victories and set a new standard at the conclusion of his career.

There would be no difficulty if “to be honest, if every day was easy and you’re simply getting through it,” he said.

“I thrive on working in a dynamic environment where I can push myself and others. We realize we haven’t done a fantastic job this year, but it doesn’t mean we can’t in the future. There were prior instances of our carrying out such an action.

“Have you felt any pain? That’s not anything I’d describe as painful. What it might be is obvious to everyone. If only the cars were closer together and the battling was better up front, we’d be there in a heartbeat.

“How I long for a world when the gap between us is simply tenths of a percentage point! However, that’s not how things work in our sport.

It’s not in my power to change it right now, so I don’t stress about it. Because of this, all I can do is direct my attention on improving how we make use of our current resources.

“Every time I scratch the vehicle, I have to pull cash out of the budget and think, “Oh, God!” Please don’t do that!

When we return in February of next year, I hope the automobile has touched the ground and is functioning as planned.
