In this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix, Zhou made history by becoming the first Chinese driver to compete in Formula One. He finished second against Valtteri Bottas, who had won 10 races with the same team.
The former F2 driver had a good season with Bottas, but mechanical issues have kept him from scoring as often as the Finn, and Alfa is slipping back towards the middle of the pack after a great start to the season.
Zhou is now 17th in the standings after 16 races after finishing 10th at Bahrain, 8th in Canada, and 10th in Monza.
So far, his most memorable Grand Prix moment occurred in the British Grand Prix, when he was turned over by George Russell in the Mercedes and leapt the tyre barrier at the start.
Miraculously, he avoided serious injury and returned to action a week later in Austria.
I need to know Zhou’s opinion.
With Alfa’s confirmation of Zhou for 2023, there are now just three available seats on the grid.
Pierre Gasly is confirmed to drive for AlphaTauri in 2023, but it is widely assumed that he will also drive for Alpine if Red Bull is unable to draft in a replacement for him. The second seats at Alpine, Haas, and Williams have not yet been filled.
Zhou expressed his gratitude for Alfa Romeo for allowing him to be a member of the squad for another year.
